Los Alamos High School Senior Andy Corliss was awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2022 USA Biolympiad. He scored in the top 20% in the nation on the USABO exam, and was just one point away from the cutoff for being a semifinalist. 

“Andy is amazing,” said LAHS Science teacher Alison Renner, who is also the sponsor of the high school Science Olympiad club. “I am lucky enough to coach him in Science Bowl and he is  equally awesome at physics, chemistry, biology and math.  Even better than that, he is just a really great kid  and is always willing to help others with the material.” 

Andy co-founded the Science Olympiad Club this year with fellow senior Cinyoung Huang, who scored one  point away from the 30% cutoff score to earn Certificate of Merit on the USABO. Science Olympiad Club  met every week during the year so that students could study for various national science tests. 

The USA Biolympiad (USABO) is sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE). As the  premiere biology competition for high school students in the United States, the USA Biolympiad (USABO)  enriches the life science education of nearly 10,000 talented students annually. It provides the  motivation, curricular resources, and skills training to take them beyond their classroom experience to  the level of international competitiveness. After two rounds of challenging exams, twenty Finalists are  invited to a residential training program where they learn advanced biological concepts and exacting lab  skills at the USABO National Finals. Ultimately, four students earn the right to represent the United  States as the USA Biolympiad Team at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO), a worldwide  competition involving student teams from over seventy countries.
